"In the name of God Amen. I Notley Maddox of the County of
Kentucky Considering the frailties of the Mortal life but being of Sound and
Perfect mind @ memory Blessed be Almighty God for the same, Doth Constitute and
ordain this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to
say
"first I give and Bequeath unto my Beloved Wife Violetta Maddox the
following Negroes to wit:
one old woman named Jenny
also one named Dark
and three Negroe men Tom, Joe and Ben
"Together with all my household and Kitchen furniture, of Every nature and
Kind and also all of my stock and Plantation utensils whatsoever that I now
have in my Possession and also all the Land that I have in Campbell County
State of Kentucky and on the waters of main Licking River to remain her's
during her natural life or widowhood
"Excepting that there must be as much of the Said Personal Estate Given
unto my wife as will satisfy the Debts that I now owe for said Tract of land
above mentioned which shall be invested in the hands of my son Ezekiah
Maddox which shall be given unto him by my said wife when called on which said
Land I give and Devise unto my son Ezekiah Maddox his heirs and assigns
forever.
"I also give and bequeath unto my son Ezekiah Maddox Sarah Maddox
and Martha Maddox the abovementioned Negroes given to my wife to be
Equally Divided between them after her Death. I also Bequeath unto my son Ezekiah
Maddox one Negro Boy named Frank also give and bequeath unto my Daughter
Sarah Maddox one small negroe Girl named Amy;
"I also give and bequeath unto my son Charles Maddox fifty Pounds
to be paid to him after the Death or widowhood of my wife in horses, homes
Cattle and hogs to be Paid out of my Estate
“…and also I further give and Bequeath unto my son Ezekiah Maddox and my Daughters Sarah and Martha Maddox all my household and Kitchen furniture together with all the stock and Plantation utensils after the Death or widowhood of my said wife Violetta Maddox to be Equally Divided Between them;
“I also give and Bequeath unto my sons Notley Maddox, Townsly
Maddox and my Daughter Elizabeth Lanham one English shilling a piece to
be Paid out of my Estate…
"and I do hereby Constitute and appoint my son Ezekiah Maddox to be
my hole and sole Executor hereby revoking all other former wills by me made.
"Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fourteenth day
of January one Thousand Eight hundred and one.
